2007-2013 CROSS BORDER COOPERATION PROGRAMME

LATVIA-LITHUANIA-BELARUS

On the 5-6 of May, 2014, the EU funded Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus Cross-border Cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument gathered the people from the 3 countries to enjoy joint sports in the border region of Latgale (Latvia).

Over 50 journalists, students and representatives of the regional authorities from Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus took part in the active trip, during which they were acquainted with the joint sports, healthy lifestyle, culinary heritage and tourism projects.

The Latvians, Lithuanians and Belarusians actively participated in the street-ball tournament in Daugavpils learning about the trilateral sports-base improvement project „Health is wealth“ as well as competed in the Nordic walking in Preiļi together with the healthy lifestyle project „Move for life“. Also, the participants got to know of the common tourism development vision „Bella Dvina 2“ of the Latgale region (Latvia), Aukštaitija region (Lithuania) and Vitebsk Oblast (Belarus). For the closure of the fantastic event everyone was invited to learn and to try the Latgalian traditional bread-baking in Aglona by the Latvian-Belarusian culinary heritage project „Bella Cuisine.

During this creative journey dedicated to the Europe Day (May 9) the journalists and students were not only provided with interesting information for their publications and reports, but also were able to compete for prizes and gifts answering questions about the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus Cross-border Cooperation Programme within European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007-2013.





57 joint projects of Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusian organisations are implemented under the Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus Cross-border Cooperation Programme. Over 37 mln. euro of the European Union funds have been allocated to them. The joint projects are implemented by 224 organisations (54 from Latvia, 74 from Lithuania and 96 from Belarus).

It is planned that while implementing the projects over 50 buildings will be constructed or renovated and up to 100 outdoor infrastructure objects will be built. Partners will hold 20 international festivals and the same number of conferences. 10 cooperation networks will be set. The life-saving, customs, health services and other organisations will purchase 40 pieces of expensive modern equipment and machinery. Website of the Programme: www.enpi-cbc.eu.
