01-12-2011 LOCAL BORDER TRAFFIC AGREEMENT BETWEEN BELARUS AND LATVIA COMES INTO FORCE
Today on 1st of December the representatives of Latvian and Belarusian Ministries of Foreign Affairs shall exchange notes in Vitebsk, and the local border traffic agreement between Governments of Belarus and Latvia will come into force.
Starting with 6th of December the applications for data entry into the list of inhabitants of the border territory with Belarus will be accepted. The employees of Daugavpils municipality are in charge for compiling such lists and submitting them to the Daugavpils branch of State Border Guard of Latvia. After their approval those lists will be submitted to the General Consulate of Belarus in Daugavpils. According to preliminary estimates of the municipality these permissions will be requested by 30-40 thousands of Latgale inhabitants.
The first permissions will be issued by the General Consulate of Belarus in Daugavpils starting from 1st of February 2012. Those will cost 20 euro (duty fee). The disabled people and children under 18 years will be exempted from this fee. The permission will give the right to stay in the border area only.
