Craftsmen Fair in Braslav Sābru Tiergs in Rēzekne Festival Park Opening
PRIORITY 1: PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT Measure 1.4: Preservation and promotion of cultural and historical heritage, promotion of cross-border tourism Beneficiary: Rēzekne City Council (Rēzekne, Latvia) Partners: Department of Ideological Work, Culture and Youth Affairs of Braslav District Executive Committee (Braslav, Belarus); Braslav District Museum Association (Braslav, Belarus) PROBLEM: The threat of losing the accumulated cultural and historical heritage in Rēzekne and Braslav border regions eventuates from insufficient financial support for its preservation and promotion, low level of interest among the population to cultural processes and outdated infrastructure of cultural objects. The joint efforts of the project partners will create a new impulse for culture and tourism attractions of the target cross-border region. OBJECTIVES: The overall objective of the project is preservation and popularisation of cultural and historical handicraft heritage through positioning of the project area as an attractive place for significant regional culture events. RESULTS&OUTPUTS: The partners made the cultural life of a Latvian and a Belarusian towns livelier.
They conducted joint handicraft and folklore research, interviewing over 70 craftsmen and recording 100 tracks of the folk collectives and solo artists. 120 books “Arts and crafts of Rezekne and Braslav” were published and database of folk collectives was created (www.rezekne.lv/turisms/amatnieku-datubaze). A wide public campaign was carried out.
Joint traditional crafts and arts exhibitions, fairs and festivals took place in Rezekne and Braslav. The younger generation was involved in pottery and weaving master classes and a fine arts plain airs.
The City Festival Park was renovated in Rezekne. New sound systems and light equipment were installed and surrounding territory modernised at Museum of Traditional Culture in Braslav. The renovated sites can host events for up to 5000 people.
