Provident Energetics as the Key to Stabilisation of Climate Changes
PRIORITY 2: ADDRESSING COMMON CHALLENGES Measure 2.1.: Protection and sustainable development of environmental and natural resources Beneficiary: Druskininkai Municipality Administration (Druskininkai, Lithuania) Partner: Grodno City Executive Committee (Grodno, Belarus) PROBLEM: Rapid development of the Lithuanian-Belarusian border regions results in ever increasing energy consumption. Traditional ways of electricity production (natural resources) emit harmful substances which has a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, alternative ways of electricity energy production and energy saving are in focus of cross-border cooperation for ensuring the sustainable development of the target territory. OBJECTIVE: The project was aimed at encouraging energy saving and sustainable energy use in the cities of Drukininkai and Grodno. RESULTS&OUTPUTS:
New energy saving street lamps were installed in Druskininkai and Grodno. Thanks to the modern LED lighting the transport conditions have improved in two border cities. The new lamps are especially acknowledged by the drivers, who stress the fact that the pedestrians have become better visible when crossing the streets. Also, the contemporary street lamps will help Druskininkai and Grodno saving on street lighting significantly. During the project the strategy on provident energetics of Druskininkai and Grodno for the period 2012-2020 was developed.
