Partner: Belarusian Association of Assistance to Children and Young People with Disabilities (Minsk, Belarus)
PROBLEM: Due to the low level of social integration and a limited offer of special services and personal assistance, people with disabilities of the border regions of Lithuania and Belarus often face the risk of exclusion and discrimination which contravenes the provisions of Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
OBJECTIVES: The project aims at increasing the opportunities for inclusion of people with disabilities, their family members and legal carers into the society through strengthening institutional cooperation and experience exchange between the partners.
RESULTS&OUTPUTS: Two organisations, working with children with disabilities cooperated in improving the lives of these children and changing public attitude towards the disabled.
Rehabilitation camps and independent life skills training for children with disabilities, their families and carers were organised in Lithuania and Belarus. A festival “Light up Your Star“ and a civil action “Support Human Dignity” were held.
Qualification raising trainings for specialists directly working with the disabled persons took place.
