Short title: BeLiLa – volunteer care for vulnerable
| ||WINNER OF THE "BEST SOCIAL INITIATIVE" NOMINATION OF THE PROGRAMME |
PRIORITY 2: ADDRESSING COMMON CHALLENGES
Measure 2.2.: Enhancement of education, health and social sphere development
Beneficiary: Lithuanian Red Cross Society (Vilnius, Lithuania)
Partners: Belarus Red Cross (Minsk, Belarus), Latvian Red Cross Society (Riga, Latvia)
Associate: International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Country Representation (Minsk, Belarus)
PROBLEM: Need for social care services in all three countries has significantly grown due to accelerating ageing of the population (especially in rural areas) and an increase in morbidity. The system of social care at home in cross-border region is not sufficiently developed and lacks social workers. The Red Cross Societies in the region have generated certain experience. This experience needs to be shared, consolidated and expanded.
OBJECTIVE: to contribute to territorial cohesion of the Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarus border region with the focus on development of health and social services.
The Red Cross Societies in Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus improved the quality of their services and promoted the volunteering traditions in the three countries.
Red Cross volunteers took part in joint trainings and exchanged experience. The guides on volunteering and its good practice examples and on volunteering services, first aid and social care were published.
During the project, 450 volunteers have been recruited, they have made more than 5000 visits to vulnerable people. 12 Day centres for volunteers and the vulnerable were established.
